Leading European Interactive Media Sellers form unique pan-European organisation, the European Interactive Advertising Association
Key players unite to advance online marketing proposition across Europe

Monday June 10, 2002, London – Key executives from the European Interactive Media Selling community  - AdLINK Internet Media, AOL Europe, IP-WEB.NET (a member of the RTL Group), Lycos Europe, MSN Europe, Tiscali, T-Online International and Yahoo! Europe - have joined together to form a new pan-European industry organisation, the European Interactive Advertising Association (EIAA).

This is a unique move in the media industry to bring together a team of senior European players who have the vision and experience to influence the future shape of the interactive advertising business at a pan-European level.

The primary objectives of the organisation will be to champion and to improve the understanding of the value of online advertising as a medium, to grow the European interactive advertising market by proving its effectiveness, thus increasing its share of total advertising investment. The EIAA will tackle pan-European issues such as advertising effectiveness, new advertising formats, targeting, standardisation of measurement, business terms and conditions and research.

Michael Kleindl, Chairman of the EIAA and CEO of AdLINK Internet Media, commented, “Now that Internet media reach and consumption has reached critical mass interactive advertising justifies a fixed place in the media mix. The EIAA will make progress for online media buyers and sellers, increasing everyone’s understanding of the medium by pooling our knowledge and resources and making interactive advertising an easier and more accountable choice by integrating our business practices.”

Jupiter Media Metrix forecasts the European Online Advertising market to be worth €1,186m in 2002 rising to €3,595m in 2007. [1]

An important part of the EIAA remit is to undertake advanced media research projects on the effectiveness of online advertising. The first study planned addresses the need for advertisers to understand and compare the relative strengths and weaknesses of different media platforms. It will examine the effect of different forms of advertising – TV, Radio Print and Interactive - on the consumer when used alone and in combination. This study is unique in its scope, and uses a diary methodology familiar in the media business. It will run in the UK, France and Germany and has been commissioned from NFO Europe.

The EIAA will be chaired by Michael Kleindl, CEO of AdLINK Internet Media.
