Traditional and Online Players Collectively Sign Up to Drive the Digital Industry
13th January 2009 – The European Interactive Advertising Association (EIAA) today announced that eight new members have joined the unique pan European trade organisation for the interactive media business. This commitment to championing digital from traditional media companies as well as established and emerging online players, underlines the impact of digital across the media sphere and the growing importance of adopting a multimedia approach to marketing.
Specific Media, the advertising industry’s largest independent online advertising network, Smartclip, one of Europe’s leading online video advertising network and blinkx, the world’s largest and most advanced video search engine have all signed up to be EIAA members. The world’s largest online marketplace eBay, and LinkedIn, the fast growing professional networking site are also joining from January.
A number of the world’s most influential multi-media companies are becoming members too. Leading news channel CNN International, Europe’s largest printing and publishing firm Gruner + Jahr and world renowned The Walt Disney Company will all take advantage of the benefits of EIAA membership with immediate effect and become part of the association which brings together current major media owners and other key industry players to shape and drive future interactive strategy.
The EIAA will benefit from the appointment of some of the media industry’s leading players to the board, further strengthening the power of the body to represent the industry on a range of issues at a pan-European level:

The focus of the EIAA is in four main areas:
- Undertaking advanced pan European media and B2B research projects on media consumption and advertising efficiency and advertising spend to highlight the unique digital opportunity to marketers
- Standardising key areas of the interactive advertising business and defining industry guidelines to help media owners and publishers maximise the online proposition
- Marketing the medium, its opportunity and effectiveness across the European marketplace and highlighting the benefits of adopting a European approach
- Educating the EU Parliament and Commission on the potential of the medium and the increasing importance of the interactive industry to business and consumers
